Despotovic.com - Churches We Have Contacted
A lot of people asked us while protesting by the White House why we don't ask churches either for their support and/or financial aid. We knew this would be blocked somehow but so that we don't have any regrets, August 15, 2005 we went ahead and sent a letter to about 150 Catholic Churches 20 miles in and around Washington, DC. In the envelope we also included another envelope already addressed back to us. A year later now, we still have not gotten a single reply nor a single penny. We don't hold anything against the priests, but we still do not understand their reaction. Here is a copy of the letter:


Dear Father,

I am Despot Despotovic Jr. born in Tennessee in 1983. However, I was only born there. At the age of four months, my parents moved to Charleston, SC. It is there that I finished my schooling at Blessed Sacrament School. I have good souvenirs of my school days there. At the time, the Principal was Sister Rita which was then followed by Sister Linda Marie. The priest there was Father Kelly who was later replaced by M. Magmanus.

Out of everyone in my family, the one who was most well known was my eldest sister Corinne Despotovic. All the teachers at Blessed Sacrament School will be able to tell you what kind of person she was. Unfortunately, Corinne was kidnapped June 5, 2005 from the Wal-Mart parking lot in Greenwood, SC. It is for this reason that my blind father and I have been protesting by the White House since July 22, 2005. At the beginning, we thought our case would quickly be investigated but it has already been a month that the Washington D.C. authorities have been dragging their feet. All of our story from start to finish has been placed on our Internet Site www.despotovic.com and www.despotovic.net

It is most probable that we will have to stay a few more weeks or even another month but our budget won’t allow it. Our expenses our astronomical for our size budget; hotel, food, gas, etc… It is for this reason that I am writing to you in hopes to obtain some help. Do you have a room in the Washington D.C. area with access to a bathroom which we could use to sleep in temporarily? We have our own sleeping bags so beds wouldn’t be necessary. Please do not worry about our comfort; to us anything will do and will greatly reduce our expenses.

We are present everyday on Pennsylvania Ave by the White House gate. We get there around lunch time and leave around 7:00pm. Next week, we will be there with a big white cross (unless our permit is denied), and we ask if you can come to bless our cross. I hope you can come to our help. My father and I in the name of everyone in our family thank you very much in advance.
